About Kanoni Consultancy
A UK railway consultancy, founded in 2017, working for the parties whose schemes sit next to somebody else's railway.
What the practice does
Kanoni Consultancy Ltd advises developers, contractors, architects and planning consultants whose works interface with the operational railway. That covers Network Rail asset protection agreements — BAPA and APA — engineering and technical assurance in the CEM and CRE roles, CDM 2015 duties, consents and approvals, early feasibility advice, commercial management and the delivery of rail-side works.
The common thread is the interface itself. A scheme near the railway has to satisfy an infrastructure owner who was not party to its design, has no stake in its programme, and is entitled to attach conditions to it. Managing that relationship well is a specialist job, and doing it badly is expensive in a way that is usually only visible in hindsight.
Mohamed Kanoni, Founder & Director
Mohamed is a rail interface and asset protection consultant who has delivered third-party infrastructure projects across the UK.
He has worked on HS2 and Network Rail projects, and specialises in Basic Asset Protection Agreements (BAPA) and the safe, compliant delivery of works near railway assets.
He works for clients whose schemes have to satisfy Network Rail: protecting the infrastructure, without letting the programme slip while that is done.
He would rather settle a problem at the planning stage than argue about it on site.
How we prefer to work
Early, where we can. Asset protection conditions influence the position of a building, the choice of foundation, crane locations, permitted working hours and the programme, and all of those are cheaper to shape than to change. A short piece of advice at feasibility stage frequently saves more than the whole of the fee that follows it.
Directly, as well. Clients on rail-adjacent schemes generally do not want a layer of account management between them and the person who understands the problem, and we do not add one.
Case studies
Kanoni has delivered asset protection, engineering assurance and CDM work on commercial schemes for contractors and infrastructure businesses. We do not publish a client's scheme without their agreement; ask us about relevant experience and we will talk you through comparable work and share non-sensitive specifics on request.
